Details

Established in 1875, Brisbane Girls Grammar School provides a broad, liberal education for students from Years 7 to 12. Through the diverse experiences offered at Girls Grammar, students are inspired to dare to dream, test the unfamiliar and lead lives enriched by learning. By balancing academic learning with enriching co-curricular activities underpinned by a comprehensive Student Care Program, students develop into well-rounded, capable, confident and independent young women who embark on diverse and fulfilling careers. The curriculum at the school is designed to nurture education through a diverse range of challenging intellectual and physical experiences. Students are taught to understand connectedness across different contexts and become engaged with their learning and the learning process. Although academically non-selective in the main year of entry, Year 7, the school consistently achieves outstanding academic results across ATAR, NAPLAN and the Queensland Certificate of Education. In 2021, Girls Grammar was ranked as one of the top-performing schools in the new system of senior assessment, ATAR. The school’s robust co-curricular program strengthens students’ existing talents and uncovers new areas of passion, developing enduring life and leadership skills, resilience and an adventurous spirit. Girls Grammar offers 19 competitive sports, which foster important leadership, decision-making and teamwork skills that are highly valued in future careers and life pursuits. The Instrumental Music Program offers 34 ensembles, including bands, choirs, orchestras and chamber groups, allowing each student who wishes to develop her musical ability. Student Care at Girls Grammar is responsive to the needs and developmental age of the individual. The school believes student wellbeing is the responsibility of every teacher in every classroom and has a team of dedicated staff, including clinical psychologists who oversee the social and emotional aspects of the girls’ education. Emphasis and careful thought are given to the important task of assisting each girl to find her place, assisted by comprehensive support offered through the school’s distinctive House Structure.

I got cyberbullied here by people I thought were my friends, and the teachers and staff are rude and don't really care about you, they only care about school work and to keep their profile high. I moved to St Margarets just a term ago, and oh my lord it is amazing so much better than Grammar.

Personally wouldn’t send my children here, my ex friend went here for 2 years (7 & 8) and started doing self harm due to some bulling. Only some teachers care and listen. Others can’t be bothered.. I think another great alternative to this school is Somerville house. I went here and it’s so amazing.

As a graduate, I can honestly say that Brisbane Girls Grammar School is made good only by the teachers; the majority perform their duties well and pass down valuable insight to their students which I deeply treasure. I am gravely concerned about the appointed student care, the dean of students and the vice principal; their handling of bulling and harrassment was repulsive and destructive to students - at times it felt isolating to be at the school when these people would do nothing to help, even at times defending those who partook in disgusting behaviour. The damage this does to students emotional development and wellbeing should be looked into, as currently there is no assurance that those employed and trusted to care will do anything more than give a plastered condescending smile and cover up any problems - going so far as to lie to parents about the ongoings on school grounds. The extra curricular activities and campus are immaculate, but neither are a substitute for good student care, leaving no question as to why reunions dwindle in popularity. Nil Sine Labore

Just attended the open day. Wow, what a lovely school. Amazing facilities, the girls were so impressive, the school looked wonderful. A place for young minds and souls to grow.
