Since 1877, Tintern Grammar has been a leader in the fields of teaching, learning and the care of all our students. Set on 40 acres of beautiful tree-lined grounds, Tintern has magnificent sporting fields, state-of-the-art facilities and a working farm.
At Tintern, we see Parallel Learning as a ‘best of both worlds’ approach because it offers single gender classes on a co-educational campus. Our classes run on both co-educational and single gender settings according to the student’s age and stage. In the Early Learning Centre, our students begin their learning in a co-educational environment. From Prep to Year 9, our students learn in single gender classes at an age when gender tends to play a greater role in influencing learning styles. This allows us to tailor our teaching methods to create optimal learning and pastoral environments to support each child. Our students feel more confident to be academically courageous and challenge themselves in a supportive and nurturing environment.
Students are re-introduced into co-educational classes in Years 10 to 12, when social development is an important part of their growth and maturation, with the move to more inquiry based and independent learning as they prepare for future study and work pathways. Having both single gender and mixed classes run on a co-educational campus gives families the perfect balance between the academic and social development.
Tintern Grammar is proudly an open entry school which caters to the needs of all students. In particular, Tintern is able to support academic needs of highly able students through our Horizon Program. It aims to enrich, extend and enhance the learning of highly able students who possess special talents and interests in a particular area of the curriculum, enabling students to excel in their areas of passion.
At Tintern Grammar, we understand students learn differently and every path of learning is individual. We offer a variety of pathways for students to achieve their desired outcomes and future goals. Our results are consistently the best in the region and reflect the hard work and persistence of our students and the excellent teaching support we provide.
Our VCE Dux Olivia Dowling achieved an ATAR of 99.70, and our International Dux Peilei (Jessica) Chen achieved 97.50.
As a cohort, the Class of 2022 achieved the following outstanding results:
A perfect score of 50 was achieved in Psychology, and 10 per cent of our study scores were at, or above, 40.
We provide choice and balance for students in the Senior College offering two study pathways — VCE and VCE/VET — as well as extensive course and careers guidance, and university preparation. We also offer accelerated pathways in VCE with the ability to study VCE subjects from as early as Year 10 to help students tailor a study program to meet their individual strengths and needs.
Our Middle Schools focus on academic and personal growth, health and pastoral care and gender-specific challenges. Our Camps and Outdoor Education program builds skills of resilience, independence and responsibility.
Our girls’ and boys’ Junior Schools are an engaging and exciting place to learn. Our students receive the unique benefit of learning in tailored, gender-specific classrooms, while still taking part in planned activities in a co-educational environment.
We offer part-time and full-time three-year-old and four-year-old programs that combine teacher-led learning with play. Our youngest learners develop social, emotional, physical and intellectual skills, providing a solid foundation for their academic journey.
We offer students a broad range of co-curricular activities, including sport, outdoor education, young farmers, robotics and coding, performing arts, debating, music and much more.
