We’re a school for all, welcoming, nurturing and empowering all students.
St Mary’s College is inner Melbourne’s only Catholic co-educational secondary school. We are proudly an Edmund Rice School.
Our values of respect, justice, compassion, inclusivity, and courage guide our teaching and support of students. Girls and boys at St Mary’s College learn together in an environment of respect, excellence, enquiry, challenge and fun. Our learning environment reflects the world beyond the classroom.
The size of our college allows all students to be known and develop a deep sense of belonging to our community. Our students are active participants in their learning, who are empowered to think and act for themselves. We nurture a love of learning inspiring each student to achieve their best. Our contemporary learning practices offer immersion opportunities within and outside the classroom to apply learning to the real world.
Our college offers a mix of modern learning environments and historic architecture that provides a physical link to our history and Catholic traditions of Edmund Rice and Nano Nagle.
Our two adjoining campuses work as one. Year levels have a home base at one campus and have the flexibility to access specialised learning areas and
excellent facilities, such as our beautiful oval and indoor swimming pool at the Edmund Rice Campus, and Textiles and Food Technology at the Presentation Campus.
Our students are challenged and empowered to build a just world for all, applying our Catholic values of compassion, justice, and peace, enacted within our community.
Year 9 at St Mary’s College is an exciting experience of collaborative learning where positive relationships, student voice and real-world thinking are prioritised. Relationships are at the core of Year 9, a catalyst that motivates our students as they enter the critical phase of middle adolescence. We explore relationships with one another — relationships with family and community and most importantly, relationship with self. Throughout the year we connect students with the wider community in rich and meaningful ways, working with local councils and community groups, Indigenous groups and voluntary organisations. It is a truly transformative year. Our students are based in a dedicated state-of-the-art learning area at the Presentation Campus.
Formerly an all-boys school known as CBC St Kilda, Our college was reimagined in 2020 to incorporate its renewed vision as a co-educational Catholic secondary school in inner Melbourne.
St Mary’s College benefits from 30 years’ experience in co-educational learning in VCE subjects and immersion experiences through the partnership of CBC and Presentation College Winsor (PCW). The two colleges worked closely together to produce musicals and performances and shared a close community, with their stories interwoven.
The charisms of the Presentation Sisters and Edmund Rice Education Australia linked the two schools. For over 140 years, CBC was a Catholic secondary college for boys in St Kilda East. Established in 1878, its beginnings may be traced back to the efforts and foresight of Dr Corbett, Parish Priest of St Mary's
Parish, who was responsible for securing the arrival of the Christian Brothers and Presentation Sisters from Ireland.
St Mary’s College will continue to preserve and promote the tradition of Blessed Edmund Rice and Nano Nagle as the call for young people to become leaders, providing service to the marginalised is more relevant than ever.
