At St Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School, we are all about girls. We have a proud tradition of providing a rich and rewarding education for girls and young women and place great value on the development of the whole person as we facilitate the academic and holistic growth of our students, in a caring and inclusive community. St Mary’s is a non-selective, leading Western Australian independent day and boarding girls’ school located in Karrinyup in the northern suburbs of Perth. Set in 16 hectares of landscaped gardens and natural bushland, the school is only a five-minute walk to the ocean.   The school also operates its own outdoor education facility, set in natural bushland in the heart of the Margaret River region.  With a student population of almost 1500 students from Kindergarten to Year 12 and WA’s largest boarding house with 185 boarders, we strive to ensure that each student is nurtured as an individual and feels she is an important member of the St Mary’s family. In addition to delivering engaging learning experiences, St Mary’s is committed to providing our students with consistent and structured opportunities to foster positive relationships with themselves, fellow students, their teachers and their community. Our highly skilled pastoral care team promotes positive wellbeing and provides additional support to students in times of need. While we are a non-selective school academically, we have developed a strong academic tradition, ranking among the top schools in WA.  Our Class of 2020 performed exceptionally well in what was a trying year for all secondary students. They achieved a median ATAR of 90.3 (against a state average of 81.65) and received a total of 111 School Curriculum and Standards Authority Awards. Our vocational pathway, Elevate, also delivered significant benefits to our girls, with excellent outcomes. Five VET Certificates of Excellence were attained along with three VET Subject Exhibitions. St Mary’s runs a diverse co-curricular program which enriches students’ lives and encourages the development of both specific skills and the all-round person. Students can participate in activities such as sport, outdoor education, surfing, dive programs, music, visual arts, dance, drama, debating, public speaking, technology and entrepreneurial programs, intrastate, interstate and overseas study tours and exchange opportunities, volunteering and community service. These activities strengthen the development of life skills, such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication and self-confidence. We also work closely with our brother school, Hale School to offer an engaging co-curricular and social program which helps students from both schools to develop meaningful, respectful and collaborative relationships from a young age. At St Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School, we focus our attention on girls’ education — their interests, talents and their specific styles of learning. St Mary’s is a school in which girls flourish.  Our junior girls will discover a school that encourages a love of lifelong learning. With an emphasis on the basic skills of literacy and numeracy, we help them develop strong foundations on which to build increasing knowledge and understanding. They are taught to interact and co-operate as they grow. In those early years, our girls also make firm friendships and develop a sense of connection to their school.  We encourage our students to be curious and inquisitive; we inspire them to think widely, to research, to collaborate, to interpret and evaluate; we challenge them to be self-motivated and self-directed. We cultivate their passions and instil in them an aspiration to aim high while remaining grounded, respectful and caring. A sense of family and home away from home are the essence of the St Mary’s boarding experience. From the moment they step through the gates of St Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School, boarding students feel a sense of connectedness.  At St Mary’s our boarding house is at the heart of the school, both in location and sentiment. Nestled in a safe, secure location, situated on 16 hectares and surrounded by natural bushland, St Mary’s is a little bit of the Australian countryside only minutes from the ocean.  There are many carers for our boarders, from the Head of Boarding to our extensive and well-trained staff, including 24-hour onsite house mothers and medical staff.  When girls start their boarding experience with St Mary’s they are matched with a day school family, who offer additional support via the Perth Pal Program. This is complemented by new boarders having a Year 10 ‘big sister’ to guide them on their journey.  We encourage families to experience for themselves what makes St Mary’s so special.
